About this place
Rather than making sushi the whole meal, Sushi Yamazaki lends itself to a leisurely progression: enjoy a few small dishes, then finish with nigiri. Visitors have commented on the fresh toppings and small portions of rice, and have mentioned enjoying the sashimi platter and monkfish liver with ponzu.
Among the small plates, alongside monkfish liver with ponzu, is grilled conger eel, described as crisp-skinned and tender inside thanks to the proprietress’s distinctive cooking method. The shrimp paste-stuffed shiitake uses mushrooms from Okuizumo in Shimane Prefecture and is served with a special broth. Start with sashimi and other snacks, or add grilled and fried dishes to set your own pace before the nigiri.
For a more leisurely set meal, the Fugu Feast course includes fugu sashimi, fried fugu, and fugu hot pot, followed by four pieces of nigiri and three slices of a sushi roll. Choose either rice porridge or udon to finish. It offers a different experience from a meal centred on nigiri.
There are also reports from diners who have used the counter and tatami seating, making the restaurant an option for a solo meal or dinner with a small group. Reservations are recommended for dinner, so it is worth booking ahead.
